Coffee walnut cake poisoning

My personal experience with Coffee walnut cake poisoning.

We just came back from a  morning coffee bash.  I feel good about myself.  I feel good because I didn’t have a piece of the coffee walnut cake covered with butter icing.  If you follow this blog you will know I practise the paleo eating habit.  Coffee walnut cake covered with butter icing is not on the list of things a caveman might have found somewhere. Several members of the family follow the same way of eating. They didn’t have any either.

The weirdest thing is that you feel so good in yourself, so well. that you don’t want to screw that feeling up, not even for the momentary pleasure of rolling a mouthful of coffee walnut cake oozing with butter icing around in the mouth.  Coffee walnut cake oozing with butter icing will shortly make the body weary and the brain dull.  It’s poisonous to me. And I can feel it doing it. The next day is hung over with coffee walnut cake oozing butter icing poisoning.  Some people reading this will think I’m exaggerating,. But those on paleo will know exactly what I am talking about.

The main culprits in coffee walnut cake dripping with butter icing are the flour and the sugar and probably a few modern chemicals added to make it especially delicious to our jaded tongues.  We have made flour poisonous.  Sugar is personally poisonous.  The chemicals we add to commercially produced foods are mostly poisonous – well, not natural.

I sound like a zealot.  But I’m not.  I believe people should eat what they like but it is only a matter of time before more and more people will discover how food affects them from personal experience and they will also dump the coffee walnut cake oozing with butter icing because the way it makes them feel isn’t worth it. They will only have it on very special occasions when it’s really worth it.

Maybe.

  1. I agree with you. I think my funny heart beat is diet related. I was doing so well and then I cheated. I am really struggling to get back to normal rhythm. Been nearly 3 weeks now. Its exhausting. …

    • When my heartbeat went funny, the doctor asked if I had changed my brand of cigarettes. When I said, “yes, actually I have” He said switch back to your old ones. Which I did. Situation sorted.

But, I do remember another time years later. Mr Furlong came home and told me he’d been retrenched, made redundant, kaput job. I got such a shock, my heart “leapt” . Problem solved.

Go on a roller coaster ride. 😀

    • Funny heart beats are diet related. Certainly in my case. But pinpointing what food causes it is really hard work. Sometimes it’s easier not to eat anything at all.

  2. I am not on a Paleo Diet, but I know exactly what you mean. A sugar hangover is worse than an alcohol hangover, at least to me. I had it for years and didn’t even realise. But I do still indulge occasionally.
As for Walnuts, I developed an allergic reaction to those rather suddenly, and it was so bad that I simply don’t go there any more, ever.
