The Last Furlong

Comments on the race of life.

Step together, side. Step together, other side.

I’m in bed with a ferocious cold in my front face. I don’t know how any self respecting germ could have entered our home, or my sinuses against our Covid barrier. Mr Furlong has been stricken too. Its shameful, but it isn’t Covid.

I thought a bit of excercise might be good for me.

I didn’t know there were so many dance styles! My dancing technique has been ‘step together, side. Step together, to the other side.’ Repeated. Repeated. Repeated.

Its been good enough for me in the past, and will be in my future, if I make it!

  1. I used to be quite able at Ballroom Dancing, but that was a long time ago and Jiving was more fun. As it is, I don’t get Colds or Flu, but I did have Dengue Fever once, but I don’t remember much about it. So either I’ve had Covid and didn’t notice, or I’m not going to get it. Said she, hopefully.

I have now, more or less stopped thinking that I could be dead next week, although the anxiety at the time was pretty awful. That has been the worst aspect for me.

    • Well, when you are old, the next step is always death! Gotto get used to it. It might be quite interesting!

      • But not just yet, eh what. And I really don’t want to think about it. So I am heading back to thinking 100 at least. I haven’t much aged at all in the last ten years so what’s wrong with another 20 years.

Now where did I put that Gin Bottle again.

        • Or longer if you like. Dementia has never bothered me. Just leave the Gin Bottle where I can see it. The rest is funny and tends to bother other people more than it will bother me.

        • Whats the point of not knowing you are alive if you have dementia? Better dead!

        • Who says you don’t know that you are alive? This sounds like an excuse for Euthanasia to me. Poor old soul, she doesn’t know she is still alive so lets just bump her off.

I am surprised at you, Liz.

        • Nothing like that at all! But many with dementia are very unhappy. I’d rather be dead frankly. Its a horrible condition!

        • Did it occur to you that they are unhappy because of the way in which they are treated? Often with impatience and even anger? By being made to feel like a nuisance.

There is something seriously wrong with how all old people are treated even when they haven’t actually lost their marbles.

        • I believe they are not unhappy because of the way they are treated. They go through a character transformation that causes distress and often violence in them. They BECOME distressed – their thinking alters. That is the most upsetting situation other people have to deal with. Their loved ones PAIN !
