I do understand that to really understand Islam, I am born in the wrong language and culture. Reading the Quran in English is not ideal!
I have been surfing through the Quran via Google Chrome “find on the page”. It seems worse than the Christians’ “Thou shalt” and “Thou shalt not”. It has verses and verses telling us what God “thinks” and how he behaves, what he likes and what he doesn’t like. Some of it is conflicting. I suppose the Imam sorts it out for you if you asked the meaning of it.
Islam is an accretion of tradition and opinion, rather like Christianity. The Quran is supposed to be the pure words of the Prophet, collected and written down some time after he had died. He was a bossy chap whichever way you look at him. But, mainly, he was a succesful political leader.
Islam is a political system.
There are no words in my English translation of “Jihad” nor “Sharia”. I have to assume that’s part of the accretion of time.
My automatic feeling is to feel fear, that as the West weakens with overwhelming political correctness, Islam will conquer us. We will be very uncomfortable when every action we take is controlled by Islam. Controlled by accretion from the Middle Ages, and a political system that is totalitarian in the extreme.
