Tourrettes Var – 2017

The Furlongs are interested in art. This Furlong loves it because it makes her think and feel stuff. Mr Furlong is interested because he frames pictures. And we both ran an Art Gallery.

Art supported us.

So Tourrettes Var is a perched village in Provence that we visited last year We have just visited it again. It has no shops – no supermarkets – no news agents – no tobacconists – no tourist junk – no clothes or shoe shops – no nothing – NO shops!

If you need shops, you have to walk to Fayence, just around the corner, only a short distance, to buy your stuff. There are lots of shops in Fayence and a wonderful market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. And hotels.

But Tourrettes has no shops! No hotels.

It has treasure!

Tourrettes has artist’s ateliers. Artists workshops. Tourrettes is full of wondrous stuff to see if you love art and to buy – if you have money! And a way to ship your purchases home.

The Last Furlong blog is going to talk about the artists that work in Tourrettes…

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!

  1. Did you go to Cannes? Looks as if you stayed in the Var the whole time?

    • We did! It was heaving. Don’t like that really. And it was hot. Don’t like that either. And it’s expensive, touristy and full of excess. But I know you liked it! I must dig up your posts again, and see why you did. Maybe you see through different eyes?

      • Maybe because I go after the festival and before the Mad Men — Cannes Lions (advertising) — shindig starts.

It’s normal during the first half in June. By then, I’m craving heat and sun (even if I’m a bit under the weather for the first few days).

Monoprix in the morning, beach in the afternoon, France 2 and 3 from 3 or 4 p.m., then our terrasse with cigarettes and gin and, finally, off to a three-course dinner.

Would like to trade more experiences. Where did you eat in Cannes? Do you recall restaurant or street names?
