Left behind – thoughts on the “critics”/”elite”

The Furlongs watched a movie called “Left Behind”. We have found it reasonably gripping – an aeroplane disaster is always so. It didn’t really deserve 2% on Rotten Tomatoes. We’ve seen worse.

Left Behind received near-universally negative reviews

This film mentions………GOD!

That’s the problem.  GOD – aaarrrgh! And “The Rapture” – eeeeeeck.  The film does NOT mention “Jesus” as some headlines say. It is not politically correct to mention stuff like that except with scorn.

But

As of March 4, 2016, the film closed and had grossed $14,019,924 domestically and $13,611,499 overseas for a worldwide total of $27,631,423.

It’s budget was a mere $16 million.

So, it made a bit of profit.

People paid to watch it – all over the world. They would have been entertained by it as much as we have been.

Was it corny? Yes. Was it believable? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. Was it any more outrageous than being abducted by aliens, or an alien invasion? No. Did we enjoy it? It was OK. It was entertainment for God’s sake.

Did it deserve all the sneering from the critics and the elite commentators? No.

Funny how “God” can bring out the worst in people.

Turned out ‘Left Behind” was rather like the Donald. Some people liked it even if the elites didn’t!
