The Last Furlong

Comments on the race of life.

The bells were beautiful

All the Furlongs were at the parade today – the remembrance parade in our town. The old Furlongs and our dog, walked down to the Church. The bells were ringing. I didn’t recognize the changes rung but they were SO sad. Mournful. Deeply moving.

Today, for me was really Remembrance Day. The day the church is involved. It creates a feeling of community, of belonging, solemnity. The bands, the drums, the pipers, the last post, the marching, the serious demeanor appeals to me. Life is difficult. Life is always about death. Life is a struggle. But to affirm that that is so, is never something we are wont to “celebrate”.

Except at this time.

There were loads of young people involved today. Good for them I think. To remember our ancestors and that their most treasured gift to us, the living, were their deaths, cannot be a bad thing.

I remember.

And the bells were beautiful!

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!
