Millions of unsold cars – did you know this?

Fancy just manufacturing, manufacturing and manufacturing something even though there is too much of it in the world? What kind of sanity lies behind stockpiling millions of unsold cars?

In checking the validity of this article,

Where the World’s Unsold Cars Go To Die

I went on Google and typed in “Brielle Way, Sheerness” Link (might not work for you) and there they are! Just like the article said they’d be in 2014. They are still there in 2016!

Quote –

It would be fair to say that (unsold new cars)( it) is becoming a mechanical epidemic of epic proportions.  If anybody from outer space is reading this webpage, we here on Earth have too many cars, why not come and buy a few hundred thousand of them for your own planet!

>>>>

The car industry cannot stop making new cars because they would have to close their factories and lay off tens of thousands of employees.  This would further add to the recession.  Also the domino effect would be catastrophic as steel manufactures would not sell their steel. All the tens of thousands of places where car components are made would also be effected, indeed the world could come to a grinding halt.

The storage of new, unsold cars is happening all over the world, evidently.

Do read the article and check out the very many photos.

If this is true – we need a rethink!

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!

  1. It certainly doesn’t seem an intelligent use of capital but unless it’s inadvertently my money (eg government subsidy) I can’t see any action is required that the gods of the market will not promptly deliver without our help. Certainly I have none of my retirement funds tied up in anything so doomed as conventional car making. Do you?

    • No – no shares in cars, and ours is old and will last us till we die. We have no intention of buying a new one. It’s not just over-producing cars, it’s the waste of resources – rather like when we over-produce food. Chucking it in the sea seems a waste – because there are so many starving people, but to grow it, we have used fertiliser, water, gasoline etc etc….
