Our “special” status according to the propaganda leaflet

Our “special” status according to the Government propaganda leaflet are these

we will not join the Euro

we will keep our own border controls

the UK will not be part of further European political integration

there will be tough new restrictions on access to our welfare system for new EU migrants

we have committed to reduce EU red tape

We could omit “special status” for the first one which was sensibly decided many years ago when we first arrived in the UK,  and the second one, which we’ve had for ever, simply because we’re an Island and we can, has always caused trouble – think of “Rivers of blood”. This “special status” is not really special – but just the way things turned out. This is making something “special” when it just is what is, geography, history, and good sense.

But I could say something about

the UK will not be part of further European political integration

there will be tough new restrictions on access to our welfare system for new EU migrants

we have committed to reduce EU red tape

These are NOT what is, but what is wished for – dreams – empty promises. Cameron already tried these three.

But we are talking about the EU, a clanking totalitarian gravy train machine of unelected officials keeping tight control of “elected”representatives from 28 different Nations who vote on laws many of them have had little time to research, or even understand the content of. Or are interested in!

Have you ever SEEN voting on an issue in the EU?

It’s INSANE.

Representatives get a list of all the issues to vote on in the session – hundreds sometimes. They come up as numbers. The voting happens in a blink of an eye – with grotesque speed and no discussion. The discussion has happened before. And anyway, they probably vote how their country tells them to.  And it all happens – mechanised – in the vast Debating Chamber.

The hall of massive odds against us – the UK.

The leaflet promises that the UK will not be part of further European political integration but sometime in the future that’s an idea that might change with the lure of money to a different Government in a different time.

The leaflet promises there will be tough new restrictions on access to our welfare system for new EU migrants when David Cameron has already hit his head against THAT brick wall.

The leaflet promises us that we have committed to reduce EU red tape – I understand we’ve been trying to do that for years, in fishing, farming, flooding and a thousand other EU regulations that thwart us.  How well have we fared so far?

Tomorrow, if it’s stopped raining, I’ll walk the Furlong dog down to the post box and mail the damn thing back.

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!

  1. So, if that’s it, what is the point of staying in? There are no advantages there, as far as I can see.

As for the pointless directives from Brussels, France ignores those that don’t suit, but UK is incapable of doing this, so best Out, if you ask me.
