In this Furlong house, we favour dogs. I especially like them, the way I like my preferred humans – honest, reliable, enthusiastic, intuitive and sensitive and always pleased to see me.
We love our dog, with all his faults, which are less than we find in each other. Mr Furlong might not shape-shift into an otter near large bodies of water like the Furlong dog does, but he has more irritating traits than our dog.
Mr Furlong doesn’t LISTEN is one.
But dogs are listening – always. Even when they are sleeping. They understand language. In this house we cannot utter certain words like “walk”, “go”, “dog”, “out” “ball” or “balls”, “play”, “eat”, “food”, “car”, “shop” – even in other languages like Afrikaans and Zulu. A “walk” is currently an “ambulation”, “balls” transform into “spheres” etc. We always have to be one step ahead.
Mr Furlong says if we taught our dog to read, he could do something useful like “expedition” to the “place of groceries” all by himself, and buy the stuff we need for us, saving US the “ambulation”!
