I don’t know why, but this concept pulls at my heart – it’s making trees grow into chairs, tables and lampshades. I find it horrible.
Trees are magnificent things – not slaves. I know we use trees when we coppice and make hedgerows. Or grow them for fruit. Or cut them down for paper, building or furniture making. They somehow still remain dignified.
But deforming them to grow into our tables and chairs in their early youth, seems horrible to me. It’s not art, it’s not horticulture, it’s not because of need, it’s not befitting to our ancient relationship with trees.
It’s nasty. Tree torture. Undignified, yes?
