The Furlong baby – OUR baby – has just had a baby. But, oh dear, she’s back in hospital with infection. She already had an appalling labour.
This Guardian Article from 2012, tells me than 1 in 10 women get such infections and many end up back in hospital. I’m not reading the very horrible parts of this article – my eyes don’t want to know…
Quote – “women who develop an infection postnatally are likely to feel less able to provide care to their baby and will take longer to recover from the birth”
The National Health Service is currently actively discouraging women to have C sections. But the fact that some mothers who have had to have them in emergency, end up back in hospital through hospital infection, is really scary.
It’s the very clever way that bacteria enforce their own survival against the odds of antibiotics. Our baby is on intravenous antibiotic drips. I wonder if our baby’s baby will have the chance of getting better by intravenous antibiotics when SHE has her baby, like our baby is undergoing now? Or if bacteria will have won the war by then.
