The Last Furlong

Comments on the race of life.

I don’t mind if I do

There is something about plain speaking that is really refreshing to me.  I like enthusiasm, passion and directness.

Caution can appear weak and feeble – pallid.

Pallid people remind me of an incident where a family friend was entertaining her husband’s Boss to a meal at their home. She had made a supreme effort to make everything perfect. But every offer of a drink, or a dish was answered by the Boss with “I don’t mind if I do”

Finally by the time they got to desert she omitted to serve him anything at all. The husband, feeling awkward, pointed out that she’d not given their guest any desert.

She shrugged and said “Well, he said I don’t mind if I do, so he won’t mind”.

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!
