I heard a politician on the TV say approvingly “Its no longer whether its legal but whether it’s against public opinion.”
I thought that was a most illuminating statement.
First, it reduces the rule of law to be less important than the “lynching” mentality.
Second, it is SO easy nowadays for public opinion to be engineered exactly as politicians require through the media. Public opinion is faked.
Smoking is legal.
Alcohol is legal.
Sugar is legal.
Obesity is legal.
Private opinion is legal.
Yet public opinion is being fanned by the flames of rhetoric from healthist charities and lobbies to lynch smokers, drinkers, sugar, fat people and anyone who utters a word of their thinking that is not politically correct are shamed into silence.
