The Last Furlong

My best fossil

At Christmas in 2009 we had a Furlong Family convergence on the Isle of Wight.

We went out along the beaches in the freezing wind and sea spray to find rocks and fossils.

The Furlongs like rocks, unanimously.

I was very lucky to find this piece of Ironstone embedded with prehistoric fronds.

It is my favourite rock – but, god, it weighs a ton!

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!

  1. I like that Rock. I would stick it on my mantlepiece if I had one. A rock, I mean. I’ve got a mantlepiece. It’s covered in Chinese blue patterned porcelain at the moment.
Such a pity that mantlepieces have rather gone out of fashion. Something to do with fireplaces and fossil fuels. You largely aren’t allowed to burn that type of fossil anymore. Except in France were everybody has got one. A fireplace, I mean.
