The Last Furlong

Comments on the race of life.

Good and evil, yin and yang, light and dark

There is so much hate in the world, that one would assume hate is the ruling emotion currently. There have been times in the Furlong household where fear has been the ruling emotion, especially in the bad times we have had during serious illness or deep money troubles. But those times passed. The result was a more bonded group, family loyalty and gratitude for the good times that followed. After the winter, there is always the spring. After a long dark night, there is morning.

Is there a balance between good and evil? Is there light somewhere in the dark? Is the yang offset by gentle yin?

I like to think that the hate we see, the war, the violence, the suffering, has an equal amount of love, peace, and delight happening somewhere. I trust good and evil, yin and yang, light and dark are in balance as the sages tell us, and that our view of the darkness is simply because we are shown the shadows and not the light that throws them.

I'm someone also pounding the Path, just like you.. I'm retired, going into Old Age and loving my life. I'm hoping to remain happy and well for as long as possible. Old Age is not SO bad - yet!

  1. It seems like the dark events like war and violence are promoted more through coverage on the news. I wonder what this does to our world view and mental health?
