Beating the shit out of your body gently

I have been watching the Commonwealth Games.  I find I disapprove of beating the shit out of your body. In the 1970’s it was very fashionable to believe running would improve your health and stop heart attacks. But, in fact, you end up with artificial hips and knees and even more heart attacks.

Our bodies were evolved to exercise randomly, as in erratically,  lifting and pulling, running and walking, bending and jumping as the hunting and gathering  need pushed us.  No Paleolithic man ran a marathon or trained daily. He ran when he was hungry and ran like hell, if he was being hunted.

That is what exercise should be.  Erratic.

There is much research into it now, thank goodness. Maybe society will get the erroneous idea out of their minds that exercising as it is recommended now, is just as daft as the Government “healthy plate”.

Mr Furlong and I could easily do the following….

Short six-second bursts of vigorous exercise have the potential to transform the health of elderly people, say researchers in Scotland.

Experts said the study emphasised the benefits of exercise at any age.

High Intensity Training (HIT) has attracted a lot of attention for promising some of the same benefits as conventional exercise but in a much shorter time.

Instead of a comfortable half-hour jog or a few miles on the bike, HIT involves pushing yourself to your limits for a short period of time. End quote
